Accelerating safe and
broad access to
advanced technologies

Introduction

The SHED is an advanced technology, multi-disciplinary campus space for prototyping, making, and scientific discovery at MIT.

We offer our wide-ranging community equitable access to the latest equipment and processes. This applied mix of disciplines and expertise propels the rapid and safe advancement of education, research, and technology adoption across campus.

Our unique program is guided and supported by the rigor, expertise, and operational-area capabilities of MIT Environment, Health and Safety.

Events:

Pi Park takes visitors on an inspirational journey through biomimetic architecture and micro-scale precision engineering, brought to life through the latest developments in additive manufacturing and creative technologies. A collaboration between researchers and students from the Fabrication Lab at the University of Westminster and the SHED at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, it brings together a digitally fabricated, steam-bent timber gazebo with a series of interactive 3D-printed concrete sculptures and an exhibition of cutting-edge technological artefacts realized through advanced 3D-printing. Linked to London Festival of Architecture’s 2024 theme ‘Reimagine’, the installation invites West End visitors to re-envision the world through the promise and alternative realities next-generation technologies offer.
