Synopsis of project aims
This project develops bioactive vascular implants, including stents and bypass grafts, designed to improve endothelial integration, long-term patency, and functional performance.
It targets limitations of current implants, including thrombosis, restenosis, and poor tissue compatibility.
Approach
- Design of hybrid biomaterials with controlled degradation and mechanics
- Development of drug-eluting stents and biomimetic grafts
- Integration of bioactive functionalities (anti-thrombotic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial)
- Use of volumetric bioprinting, simulation, and perfusion systems for optimization
Why This Matters
Existing vascular implants fail to replicate native vessel biology. This project enables next-generation implants that support endothelialization, reduce complications, and improve long-term clinical outcomes.
