Neutron Scintillators

Highly Sensitive, Radiation-Resistant, Cost Effective and Scalable Neutron Scintillators

Synopsis of project aims:

This project intends to explore two potential systems as neutron scintillators. The first is based on quantum dot emitters embedded in a neutron-absorbing matrix. The second is based on doped 2D halide perovskite thin films. Potentially, these materials have distinguishing advantages that make them ideal alternatives as neutron scintillators. Yet, these are emerging technologies, and more research needs to be done as part of this project to assess their application as neutron scintillators. The main aims of the project are:

  1. Quantum dot emitter embedded in neutron-absorbing matrix as scintillator
  2. Develop perovskite thin-film scintillator for neutron detection
  3. Device integration- construct the measurement setup to test the device with the chosen material.
